چکیده: انسان از اوان تاریخ تحریری خود به موضوع رهبری علاقمند و كنجكاو بوده است و تاریخ اهمیت رهبران خوب را در زندگی، رفاه، سعادت و ترقی ملتها مبرهن میسازد. در سده اخیرنیز به جهت اهمیت و ارززش موضوع بیش از سه هزار مطالعه و تحقیق تا سال 1980 درباره رهبری انجام گرفته است و تعداد پژوهشها در دهسال گذشته در بیشتر رشتهها بیش از تعداد آن از تاریخ بشر تا آن زمان بوده است. از طرفی هر سال روشن و مبرهن میگردد كه رهبری اثربخش، در تمام سطوح جامعه و در تمامی سازمانها، برای حل و انطباق با مسائل اجتماعی و اقتصادی رو به رشدی كه جهان با آنها مواجه است، حیاتی میباشد. امروزه مهندسی مجدد ( باز اندیشی بنیادین و طراحی نو و ریشهای فرآیندها) برای دستیابی به بهبود و پیشرفتی شگفتانگیز در معیارهای حساس، دستیابی به كیفیت جهانی ( استانداردهای ISO 9000 ) و تشكیل واحدهای فعال پژوهشی نوآوری در محصول و فرآیند) لازمه تولید و عرضه كالاهای با كیفیت بهتر و قیمت مناسبتر به بازارهای جهانی و منطقهای است.از سوی دیگر ساختارهای گروهی سازمانها تا به آن حد پیشرفتهاند كه جزء اصلی سازمانهای نوین را به جای « تك شغل سنتی » گروههای موضوع روز مقوله «تواناسازی» افراد و گروهها و فلسفه «خود رهبری» است. و افزودن بهرهوری مؤسسات تنها با توجه به استفاده از حداكثر تواناییهای كاركنان، ترغیب آفرینندگی آنان، ارتقاء انگیزه و بكارگیری سبكهای رهبری صحیح و كسب رضایت آنان ممكن میباشد.
